EXPECT_Art: Fostering Cultural Connections in European Classrooms

ExpectArt project - 1st project meeting

The EXPECT_Art (Exploring and Educating Cultural Literacy through Art) seeks to promote critical cultural literacy through arts and uses of arts in education within and across 12 educational and local settings in Europe. Employing a community-based research design, the project integrates art-based methodologies that actively involves children, teachers, and citizens as research participants but also integral contributors to the research process.

Our project consortium consists of six European countries (Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, and Spain) and is led by a group of distinguished researchers from the University of Southern Denmark. It involves 13 research institutions and cultural and creative industry partners within each participation country.

EXPECT_Art is more than a research project; it is a vision for the future of arts education in Europe. Its program includes the development of a university course, a handbook, teacher seminars, educational resources, and a series of policy recommendations. The project represents a pioneering step in redefining arts education’s role in cultivating more nuanced understanding of culture across Europe.
